Bio

Currently employed as Senior Research Associate at the Centre for Public Policy & Governance (CPPG) at the Goa Institute of Management (GIM). At CPPG, amongst other things, Bernice coordinate efforts on the ‘Goa – Economy & Society’ initiative. The initiative seeks to bring to the forefront of policy debates and discussions the key challenges & potentials (therein) affecting Goa’s economy, society, governance, and politics with the aim of putting together a volume called the ‘Goa Development Report’ (forthcoming c. December 2024). Also, the coordinator for Goa-centric projects & assignments initiated by the Centre. 

Bernice earlier worked as a Young Professional in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) vertical of NITI Aayog, Government of India. Here, she worked on key projects such as the SDG India Index (the world’s first subnational measure of progress on the SDGs), the India Voluntary National Review Report presented at the UNHLPF, monitored India’s progress on the Global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) – development of Action Plan and Policy Insights for States and UTs, alongside assisting several states to prepare their State Indicator Frameworks in line with the NIF and GIF. Prior to NITI, she worked with the Smart City SPV of the Government of Goa (Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited) on various urban infrastructural projects for the City of Panaji (such as the Comprehensive Mobility Plan, the Goa Integrated Command & Control Centre, development of walkways, liaising with the MoHUA for various compliance matters etc.). She also worked briefly at India Infrastructure Publishing Private Ltd., New Delhi on several reports pertaining to India’s oil and gas industry. 

Bernice was the topper at the Goa University for the BA in Economics programme and also one of the State rankers in the Humanities stream at the Goa Board HSSCE examination. Bernice was a recipient of the Manohar Parrikar Goa Scholarship for the year 2020-21 & Dhirubhai Ambani Foundation Scholarship (2012-15)
